Empowering Young Minds: Climate Action and Digital Storytelling at CEIP Los Albares
The AGS project pilot was implemented at CEIP Los Albares, a school located in La Puebla de Alfindén, a small municipality near Zaragoza. The project engaged 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade primary school students, involving more than 100 participants who benefited from the learning opportunities it provided.

Before the pilot began, a questionnaire was administered to assess the students' initial development level in the skills targeted by the project. After the project concluded, the same questionnaire was given again, allowing us to observe significant progress in these skills.

Each grade focused on a different aspect of climate change, with tailored teaching proposals for each level.

  • 3rd Grade: The students expressed concern about the damage caused by fires and global warming to local landscapes and Antarctica. They researched how landscapes are changing due to climate change, contacted and interviewed experts, and, based on the knowledge gained, brainstormed actions they could take to help mitigate these changes. They decided to create impactful digital stories, working in teams to draw, edit, and publish short digital narratives. These stories were aimed at raising global awareness about the importance of individual actions in combating climate change.

  • 5th Grade: The students were particularly interested in the impact of clean energy, especially since some already had solar panels at home. They were also alarmed by the decline in local flora and fauna and the increasing number of endangered species. This led to research, debates, and the creation of posters and radio podcasts aimed at raising awareness within their community about the risks of human actions. They explored the pros and cons of renewable energy, despite differing opinions among them. The students created visual posters and presentations, which they shared with the entire school to raise consciousness about this critical issue. Additionally, they planned to create videos highlighting key ideas and share them on social media.

  • 6th Grade: The focus was on the environmental impact of general waste. Students analyzed the effects of waste at four levels: classroom, family, town, and district. They were provided with articles and videos on the excessive use of plastics, paper, and minerals to understand the consequences and reflect on their behaviors. Ultimately, they recognized that everything is interconnected and that humans are the main agents of change. As a result, they proposed real measures to improve recycling in their classes and families, viewing this as a crucial starting point.
